Full-Length Plays
- Knifepoint (Final draft, 2003) “KAREN: Yeah. The whole thing is… (Pause.) It all feels so unreal to me. I mean, I remembered being kidnapped, but it’s blurry, and there are chunks of time right before and after that I just don’t… have anymore.”
- Sweeten the Punch (2002) “FATHER: We need a change. (Pause) We’ve gotten too used to the same-old, same-old, the daily grind, whatever you want to call it. Tonight is meat-loaf night, because every Thursday night is meatloaf night. But I don’t want meat-loaf anymore.”
- Living in Concussion (2004) “DAVIS: I had another attack today. The attack was either longer in duration or more intense… I can’t tell which. Estimated time was anywhere from five seconds in length to fifteen minutes. Time seems to stretch and bend depending on where I stand in the room.”
Short Plays
- The League (2002) “Ethan sits and watches the television blankly. After a second, he picks up a magazine and lifts it into the air. Without apparent use of a lighter, a flame springs from his fingers and he starts to burn one corner of the magazine.”
- The Our Lady of Perpetual Mercy Quilter’s Circle (2002) “The setting is a room filled with quilting materials, including sewing machines, cloth, quilting frames, etc. Three elderly women sit working on parts of the quilts. From stage right to stage left, their names are as follows: AGNES, BEATRICE, and CLAUDETTE. Two almost finished quilts hang on the back wall. These quilts depict two scenes: one of a man in an electric chair about to be executed- this is AGNES’ quilt - and one of a woman weeping over a grave - CLAUDETTE’s.”
- Hamlet Exercise (2002) “You know they really do make toy guns look very realistic these days. I never really understood how toy makers get away with that. I mean, I can understand a big orange Super-Soaker with all kinds of extra parts, but this… (Pause) If I didn’t know better, I’d say this was real.”
- Lincoln’s Dream (2002) “LINCOLN: Yes. It is a dream. (Pause) I seem to remember watching a show recently… it was something funny, I believe. Is this going to be a comedy?”
Fiction/Prose
- A Following (2003) “At first, she only existed in the corner of my eye, in that part where nothing is quite real. I hesitated as long and as wide as a single breath, and then I turned to face the red haired woman, to see what she might look like… but all I caught was hair and the click of a well-turned heel.”
- A Sister (Revised 2004) “I had a sister once. Three years younger than me, with long, skinny arms and legs, and eyes greener than pine needles. I never liked her very much, except when she was quiet, which was hardly ever.”
Fragments (Unfinished)
- The Hard Case (2005) “Billy McTeague was a bleeder. In fact, the first time I ever met him, he bled a good bit of himself all over my rug and my last good silk shirt.”

Yes, it’s true. Jeff James, continually procrastinating writer, has actually produced new work! Specifically, Episode #9 of The Leet World.

To be completely honest, I actually finished the script about a month ago, but I haven’t talked about it for a few reasons. First off, I wanted to wait until the episode was actually released. However, [...]23 Sep 2007A Blast From The Past
So it occurred to me recently that Google Video will let you post videos of pretty much any length. A guy on the Leet World forum posted a 40 minute video, so I thought I’d get in on the act and digitize the footage I have of Knifepoint, which I haven’t watched in years.

I ended [...]02 Mar 2007Eggs
This time it was a puzzle piece. I watched, fascinated, as its edges began to curl in the crackling oil. I saw, perhaps, the leg of a small dog. Or could it be flowers, ready to bloom? Was this where all the lost puzzle pieces of the world ended up? I imagined some poor soul [...]

Last night, as I lay in bed preparing for sleep, a bit of dialogue was running through my head, so I decided that I had better write it down to make sure it didn’t go away. 30 minutes later, I had this scene. Enjoy!

So tonight was “Cathedral For a While” party #3. I didn’t perform, but I did put together “a second issue of Summer Reading”:http://unsquare.com/temp/issue2.pdf. (If you’re curious, “issue #1 is available in .zip form here”:http://unsquare.com/reading_1.zip.)

I was in the shower and I began picturing this scene. I don’t know who these people are yet, or where this scene is going, but it’s something new.
(The stage is empty except for a large, alien-looking tree, all twisted trunks and ripe-looking fruit. A slight breeze seems to be passing through and making the [...]

I think I know what I need to do to make Sweeten the Punch work. (for those of you who may not know, Sweeten the Punch is the full-length play I wrote last semester.) Basically, I’ve already decided that the revamped storyline will have something to do with Marcy’s father being a radio [...]
