Steve Martin has been a hero of mine for years. I’ll even forgive him for some of his more recent work that seems designed more as a paycheck delivery system than movies I’d like to watch. This book is about his earliest years as a stand-up comedian - the part of his career that I am least familiar with, since I became a fan of his when he was an established movie star and playwright. It was fascinating and illuminating, especially because Martin reveals a number of neuroses and self-doubting traits that I share with him. The audiobook is especially great because he reads it himself, so you get snippets of him recreating old bits. I’ll have to track down the book version at some point so I can check out the pictures as well. Highly recommended.
