Review
Stephen King’s work was once famously described as “lean and mean”, so it is appropriate that his son’s debut horror novel would fit that mold as well. Although this book was clearly influenced by his father’s work, Joe Hill has a definitive voice that does not sound like an imitation of the King writing voice. The story here is simple… an again rock star buys a ghost on ebay, and that ghost proceeds to haunt, terrify, and chase him across the US. Personal histories are revealed, dramatic moments ensue, and the book begs not to be put down. I liked that this story had such a propulsive thrust to it, and I definitely read it very quickly once I got started. I’ll be looking forward to reading future books by Hill now that he’s established himself as a writer in his own right.
