Review
This is the second Stephanie Plum book I’ve read… the first wasn’t amazing, but I found this one as an audiobook and needed something diverting to listen to while working.
The two I’ve read so far were funny enough, and decently entertaining, but the main joke is that Stephanie is completely inept as a bounty hunter and not much more than a Jersey girl with Upward Mobility. She doesn’t really solve the crime here so much as stumble her way in and out of peril until the book wraps up. Usually her semi-boyfriend Joe Morelli has to swoop in and save the day.
It’s possible the later books get better (there are about 400 of them at this point), but it’s also possible that they’re just more of the same. I don’t think I’ll bother reading any more of this series any time soon, although if I’m hard-up for an audiobook I may track down #3. Hopefully Stephanie gets better at the job after a few books.
