i don’t know why it didn’t occur to me earlier to try writing my play longhand on paper instead of screwing around on the computer. problem with my computer is that i’m easily distracted and tend to talk to people on aim or surf the web. the problem with the computers in the computer lab are that i can get distracted just as easily but it’s also one of the most uncomfortable places to try and be creative. i would much rather be sitting in my room and working.
so, bright idea of bright ideas, it occurred to me earlier this morning that i should try a pen and some paper, since i couldn’t get to sleep (i had given up on the computer and was going to shoot for a few hours of sleep and then a morning of work, but i ended up passing on the sleep cause i was just too awake and if i wasn’t going to get some rest lying in bed was a terrible waste of time.)
and, wonder of wonders, i’ve made a good amount of progress. i’m not sure how many pages it will translate into when typed, but i’ve probably written maybe 4 or 5 pages, maybe more, and that’s a personal record as of late, considering i’ve been eking out maybe a page or two every other week. i’m going to continue writing until my 11:00 class. i’ll inevitably have to take a nap after that until theatre lab so i don’t kill myself working, and then hopefully we’ll get dismissed early so i can get a little more sleep. once i’m rested up it’s another long haul. i’ll be writing non-stop until the damn thing is finished, which might take until my 1pm thursday class, but hopefully won’t.
see, i finally figured out a due date for myself, and that 1pm thursday class is it. if i want my play to be worked on in my dramaturgy class i have to get it to my professor by then. and to me, that sounds like a pretty good deal. if it doesn’t work out for me to get a staged reading but i do get to have some work done on the show in class, i’d argue that that would be equally helpful, and would most likely satisfy the requirements of my capstone. besides, i need to finish it so that i can focus on my photography project, which will probably consume a good amount of my time for these last few weeks.
