Glad you lost some weight, it's always nice to see real data that confirms that what you have been doing has some value. Hope you can stick with it after the newness wears off. They say you have to do something for either 21 or 23 days in a row to make it a habit. And a good habit, like exercise or good eating, is difficult to regain after breaking it, as I know from personal experience. Love, Dad

This reminds me of something i just read in the book i'm reading now (the Woman in the Dunes) so i thought i would share here -

"Saying you want to become a writer is no more than egotism; you want to distinguish between you and the puppets by making yourself a puppeteer."

interesting points, but I also think it depends on the people who are around. Just because you have gleaned certain aspects about a show in your life (reading internet articles, seeing commercials, etc.)doesn't mean that other people have. For instance, I still don't know what happens at the end of Sopranos and I can't wait to find out and I would be PISSED if someone told me. I think it's folly to assume certain things are common knowledge. In fact, I don't think there is a line - if someone said they had never seen Star Wars, I would be very careful not to mention that Darth Vader is Luke's father. I think this robs the person of that shock and experience, even though that might be considered "pop culture common knowledge," and they might be a complete "idiot" for not knowing that. Ones experience with a movie or TV show is a very personal thing, and I think it's something to be respected - bottom line, you gotta respect people's wishes to be left "out of the loop" if they want to stay there - it's not on them to stay on top of what's going on in any TV show.

I find that it's easier to just not mention major plot points online (it's easy for me because I don't have any sort of blog to discuss it on anyway) but whenever I'm talking to friends I usually just ask them if they know something about a show without revealing anything or if they care if I spoil it. It seems to work every time for me.

I am still watching Heroes, although I constantly find myself asking, "why?" I get irritated by the twists rather than intrigued by them. From one week to the next, I have difficulty remembering which character has "turned" and which is still the good guy. There are still a few moments that inspire interest and satisfaction, though, so I guess I'm still hooked. Can't wait say that I'm on pins and needles waiting for Lost to return, because I can't remember what happened last. I know they'll reprise it, ad nauseum, so I will probably get sucked back in. Appreciated your blog on this, Jeff.
Heroes is unbelievably frustrating, and I agree that all the tension is gone out of the show.
On the tension front, I like that we are finding out more about Sylar as a character, but it's coming at the cost of their one remaining source of genuine tension. Arthur Petrelli could shape up to be as dangerous, but we aren't quite there yet.

Great write-up on these two shows. Heroes is unbelievably frustrating, and I agree that all the tension is gone out of the show. Especially when we spend a whole episode or two with characters from the future who aren't the characters we know and love. We know that our character won't turn into that character, and that the future will be saved. So why waste the time?

I'm not sure why they even needed to save "the future" in this season, anyway. To me, the villains plot line seemed interesting enough all its own.

Hey JJ,
Some notes: Yes IE6 is the bane of all web development existence; and at this point I wouldn't worry about IE5.5, since that is largely unsupported by a majority of very large sites.

As for png transparency support, there are a couple of ways to get around it.
Microsoft allows you to apply a special Alpha transparency filter to pngs to work in IE6. In the work I do at Food Network and Scripps, we apply the filter directly to the CSS, however there is a great JavaScript I've used called Supersleight that can loop through your images for you and apply the filter:
http://24ways.org/2007/supersleight-transparent-png-in-ie6

Read about it there.

As for ways of getting around IE's other terrible quirks, here's a list of CSS hacks you can apply:
http://www.webdevout.net/css-hacks
I would put the supersleight init call into your conditional comment.

Note however, that the IE6 Alpha Filter does not allow you to have a background png image that has background-repeat or background-position, so CSS image sprites or tiling background images that have transparency are a no-go.
That being said, you could also serve up alternative gifs in your conditional comment.

The PAX link URL in your post is conflagrated with the unsquare URL so clicking the word "PAX" leads to a dead end, unless you were trying to set unsquare.com as the referring URL, then it did not work correctly.

Ah, I can remember programing web pages. It can suck valuable time.

dude, you got a fuckin show produced. That's publicity. Good job, and good luck in your endeavor to not procrastinate. The best advice I can offer comes from Raymond Carver: Write a little every day, without hope, and without despair.
